chances are you do need a new string but, that isn't your problem.

two things cause a lopsided spin.

1. lopsided throw. when you release the yoyo from your hand you have to make sure that the yoyo is perfectly straight. if it is tilted to one side or the other, that tilt will hold over through the spin of the yoyo.

2. reversed spin. make sure that you are holding/throwing the yoyo as such that the string unwinds from the release(i.e. the string should wrap over the top of the axle with your palm facing up) if the string is wrapped the other way, you will lose power due to the direction change and you will most likely get a tilt to your throw.
