for a new freehand player, both are great choices. i use them both pretty regularly and love them greatly. if you are looking to save a few bucks and just want to get started, the squirrel is a great choice. it's smooth and a great player. it is, however, a bit narrow compared to other yoyos on the market.

the FHZ is wider and comes with more counterweight options. it has kind of become the gold standard in frehand and string trick yoyos. i am sure it will rock your world.
