Duncan Unleashes New "Speed Beetle" Ball-Bearing Yo-Yo
1/20/2003
While yo-yo sales continue to climb worldwide, Duncan continues to release new models, such as the "Speed Beetle". The Speed Beetle is a ball-bearing yo-yo designed specifically for one-handed (single yo-yo) and two-handed (one yo-yo in each hand) looping play. Two-handed looping play has long been considered the most difficult discipline of yo-yo play to master, and Duncan's Speed Beetle is designed for both beginners to this challenging style, as well as World and National competition level players.Made from high-impact ABS plastic, the Speed Beetle features Duncan Friction Stickers for perfect, smooth play and amazing response. Duncan Friction Stickers have been widely accepted by beginners and masters alike as the best response system for yo-yos that money can buy. Friction Stickers are a cloth pad with a specially formulated rubber coating that allows the player to have complete control over when and how the yo-yo returns to their hand. The Speed Beetle also comes with two sets of bearing spacers - one set is wider for all-around play, and one set is thinner and specially designed for high-speed looping play. Thicker spacers will widen the distance between the yo-yo halves, allowing for a more standard style of play. Thinner spacers will narrow the distance between the yo-yo halves, causing the yo-yo to play nearly twice as fast. This is ideal for today's two-handed players.
The Duncan Speed Beetle was designed with input from several World and National-level yo-yo competitors, as well as U.S. National Yo-Yo Master Steve Brown. More information about the U.S. National Yo-Yo Masters can be found at www.nationalyoyo.org, home of the National Yo-Yo Contest and Museum. Duncan Toys has been a long-time supporter of the National Yo-Yo Contest and Museum, which once housed the private collection of the Duncan Family.
Other yo-yos designed by Steve Brown include the Duncan Freehand, revered by professional players as the best string-trick yo-yo ever manufactured. Numerous World and National Champions have used the Freehand yo-yo in competition.
