Duncan Releases New ThrowMonkey Yo-Yo

10/24/2003

While yo-yo sales continue to climb worldwide, Duncan continues to release new models such as the Throwmonkey yo-yo. The Throwmonkey is a ball-bearing yo-yo designed specifically for complicated string tricks, and "counterweight" play. Counterweight-style play was created in 1999 by U.S. National Yo-Yo Master Steve Brown, and has proven to be the most versatile style of yo-yo play in existence. With its own division at the World Yo-Yo Contest, as well as the Japanese National Yo-Yo Contest, counterweight-style play is gaining a loyal following worldwide among experience and beginner players alike!

By attaching the end of the string to a counterweight rather than your hand, a player can let go of the counterweight in mid-trick, allowing for incredible new combinations of tricks that are impossible any other way. The Throwmonkey is an advance continuation of the Freehand yo-yo from Duncan, the first yo-yo ever designed for this style of play. This is yet another revolution in yo-yo play from Duncan Toys, the company that started the yo-yo revolution in 1929.

Counerweight play has rapidly gained popularity alongside off-string play as "the players choice". With it's versatility and fluid, organic tricks, freehand-style play is capturing the imaginations of new players, and inspiring old players to pick up a new yo-yo and start trying new tricks. Counterweight-style yo-yo play has been seen in Newsweek Magazine, featured on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, and even picked up by celebrities such as Paul Thomas, bass player for rock band "Good Charlotte".

The Throwmonkey was designed to meet the needs of standard and counterweight-style players. Input from several World and National Yo-Yo Champions, as well as U.S. National Yo-Yo Master Steve Brown, was considered in every aspect of the design. It features a hard plastic body, with over-molded rubber rims giving the yo-yo more durability for missed catches, and a wider target area for the player to catch. With its ball-bearing axle, and Friction Stickers for smooth, perfect response, the Throwmonkey is a balanced, versatile yo-yo for today's players, amateur and professional alike. Packed in cases of 12 pieces with 6 different color combinations, the 3595XP Throwmonkey retail for around $20.

Duncan Toys will celebrate its 75th Anniversary in 2004. For more information on the Flying Panda or Duncan's 75th Anniversary, check out their website at www.yo-yo.com.
