Duncan Unveils new style of play with Freehand Yo-Yo
1/10/2002
Duncan Toys Company, the world's largest manufacturer of yo-yos, offers an incredible new way to yo-yo with their new Freehand yo-yo. Invented by Duncan Professional and National Yo-Yo Master Steve Brown, the Freehand yo-yo represents a new style of play called counterweight play where the yo-yo is never actually tied to your hand!Instead of being tied to your finger, the string has a specially weighted "Duncan Die" attached to its end. This allows the player to firmly hold the yo-yo to throw, while having the ability to let go of the die and string during tricks for impossible combos, incredible aerial moves, and stunning catches. The extra-wide butterfly shape of the yo-yo, combined with ball-bearing axle, adjustable string gap, and Duncan's new Friction Stickers make the Duncan Freehand an incredible, high-performance sporting device, both on and off your hand! Steve Brown, inventor of counterweight play, worked closely with the engineers at Duncan to design the Freehand yo-yo for maximum performance and durability. Steve and Duncan have been granted U.S. patent # 6,371,824 for the Freehand's counterweight system, cementing counterweight play as the first real advance in the way yo-yos are used since the invention of the slip string in 1929!
Steve's incredible mastery of counterweight play has earned him numerous titles including '99, '00, and '01 Bay Area Classic Pro Freestyle Champion, 5th place in the X Division of the '00 World Yo-Yo Contest, and the title of National Yo-Yo Master, awarded by the National Yo-Yo Museum and Contest. Finally, there is now a yo-yo designed specifically for counterweight play, with both amateurs and professionals in mind. The new Duncan Freehand is sure to take the world by storm!
